6I. Dementia-Related Psychosis

The FDA warns that people with dementia who take antipsychotic drugs have higher death rates. Other possible side effects include:

  • Severe muscle stiffness
  • Jerking movements
  • Low blood pressure
  • High blood sugar
  • Blood clots

Therefore, antipsychotic drugs are not approved for behavior disorders in patients with dementia. In fact, there is no approved drug to treat dementia-related psychosis at this time.
