5D-2 Ordinary Emotions vs. Mood Disorders: Treatment Options

You may hear the term comorbid. That means having two or more health issues going on at the same time.

People who have mood disorders often have other mental disorders, too. For example, about 50 percent of people who have depression also have anxiety.

Research shows a link between physical and mental health. For example, people with a chronic illness are more likely to suffer from depression.

Treatment Options

Medication

Depending on the diagnosis, medical providers may prescribe:

  • Antidepressants
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Antipsychotics
  • Mood stabilizers

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is also called talk therapy or counseling. This treatment involves discussing feelings, thoughts and behaviors. The therapist helps the person develop coping skills to get more pleasure out of life.
