A medication may be more or less effective depending on many things. For example, genetics can play a part. When choosing dosages, medical providers consider many factors including:

• Other medications the patient takes
• Vitamins and supplements the patient takes
• Smoking
• Alcohol use
• Drug abuse
• Age, sex and body size
• Diet
• Patient’s overall health
